Made in Japan, the 4Runner is a body-on-frame, truck-based utility, sharing its platform with the Tacoma pickup. The 4Runner has earned a reputation for being highly reliable, but still has its share of known problems. A transmission clunking issue (see below) is sometimes reported in owner’s forums and on social media and is being tracked by some technicians, but has not resulted in a recall or TSB. Recall number is included for reference and recalls are listed newest to oldest. **Load Capacity Labels (26V-282):** Some 2026 4Runner models have incorrect load carrying capacity labels, which could lead to an error in tire choice if factory tires and/or wheels are replaced. **Electrical System / Instrument Panel (25V-595):** Due to a startup software error, the digital instrument panel may fail to display critical data, such as vehicle speed, brake warnings, and tire pressure indicators. The following are the most-mentioned TSBs issued for the 4Runner that are not part of a recall (above). **Front Brake Squeal (TSB-0006-26):** Addresses a commonly-reported front brake noise issue in early 2025-2026 4Runner production models.
