The official 2025 Ram 1500 MPG numbers have been revealed, and the Hurricane is a vast improvement over the outgoing Hemi engine — except for the high-output version.

These numbers come from *[Fueleconomy.gov](<https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/PowerSearch.do?action=PowerSearch&year1=2023&year2=2025&cbmkRam=Ram&cbmcpickupTrucks=Pickup+Trucks&minmsrpsel=0&maxmsrpsel=0&city=0&highway=0&combined=0&YearSel=2023-2025&MakeSel=Ram&MarClassSel=Pickup+Trucks&FuelTypeSel=&VehTypeSel=&TranySel=&DriveTypeSel=&CylindersSel=&MpgSel=000&sortBy=Comb&Units=&url=SearchServlet&opt=new&minmsrp=0&maxmsrp=0&minmpg=0&maxmpg=0&sCharge=&tCharge=&startstop=&cylDeact=&rowLimit=50>)*, the official U.S. government source for fuel economy numbers.

## **2025 Ram 1500 MPG**

Jumping right into it, the carry-over 3.6-liter V-6 continues to be the best for fuel economy. Compared to the Hemi in the 2024 models, the standard-output 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo Hurricane, which delivers 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, returns a 2 MPG jump highway and 1 MPG jump in combined numbers.

However, the high-output Hurricane engine, standard on the Tungsten trim, returns worse fuel economy compared to the outgoing 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi e-Torque engine. Plus, the new engine, which delivers 540 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, recommends premium fuel for the best performance. That means you’ll pay more per mile to drive the new engine versus the outgoing Hemi that required mid-grade fuel.

Here are the numbers:

| Model | City | Highway | Combined | 2WD/4WD |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 3.6-liter V-6 HFE | 20 | 26 | 23 | 2WD |
| 3.6-liter V-6 | 20 | 25 | 22 | 2WD |
| 3.6-liter V-6 | 19 | 24 | 21 | 4WD |
| 3.0-liter S/O Hurricane | 18 | 25 | 21 | 2WD |
| 3.0-liter S/O Hurricane | 17 | 24 | 19 | 4WD |
| 3.0-liter H/O Hurricane | 15 | 21 | 17 | 4WD |
| | | | | |
| **2024 Ram 1500** | | | | |
| 3.6-liter V-6 HFE | 20 | 26 | 23 | 2WD |
| 3.6-liter V-6 | 20 | 25 | 22 | 2WD |
| 3.6-liter V-6 | 19 | 24 | 21 | 4WD |
| 5.7-liter V-8 e-Torque Hemi | 18 | 23 | 20 | 2WD |
| 5.7-liter V-8 e-Torque Hemi | 18 | 22 | 19 | 4WD |

## **What else is new?**

In case you missed the updates on the 2025 Ram 1500, [we covered all the changes](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2023/11/2025-ram-1500-gets-hurricane-power-new-top-tier-trim/>) and did a [first drive](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2024/02/2025-ram-1500-bring-on-the-hurricane-first-drive/>) of the new truck.

Basically, it is a new powertrain replacing the Hemi, some new exterior and interior styling as well as that aforementioned Tungsten trim. There are technology upgrades as well with a larger center screen.

Oh, and I ordered a [2025 Ram 1500 Big Horn](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2024/01/just-ordered-new-2025-ram-1500-big-horn-price-shocker/>) for a year-long review.

## **The bottom line**

Better MPG was expected with the new standard-output Hurricane, and the casual fan may say, yeah but it’s just 1 MPG in combined driving. This is actually a big deal considering that you get more power *and*better fuel economy than the outgoing Hemi.

On the flip side, the high-output Hurricane gets worse fuel economy than the outgoing Hemi, and you’ll pay more at the pump with premium fuel.

It remains to be seen how close real-world fuel economy is going to be compared to the EPA estimates.
