By Jill Ciminillo Published: 2024-01-30T00:43:23+00:00 Updated: 2025-07-23T15:11:07+00:00 ![Featured image]() We knew that Rivian wasn’t going to stop with the R1T and R1S, and in fact, the EVmaker has already [trademarked R2S, R3S, R4S, R5S, R2T, R3T, R4T and R5T](). But we know via a local news story, that Rivian is [planning a world debut]() from its new Laguna Beach digs on March 7. Since Rivian [teased the R2S]() (we think) back in May, we’re going to make an assumption here: The Rivian R2S will be revealed on March 7. ## **What do we know about the Rivian R2S** First, we should say we don’t have any definitive details about the Rivian R2S – other than the fact that it will be smaller than the R1S. Think Ford Bronco instead of Ford Expedition. According to the [Automotive News Future Pipeline](), which was last updated in September of 2023, Rivian is set to produce the first vehicles in its Georgia plant (rendered in the featured image above) in 2026. These vehicles are designed to be smaller and more affordable and likely will use in-house motors to bring the cost down. Of course, the Rivian R2S and R2T will be built on the same platform and are both due out around the same time. The Rivian R12 starts at $78k, so the folks at [Car & Driver estimates]() the R2S will start around $40k and go up to about $60k. Other than that, we can expect it to look a lot like the R1S and have a lot of the same tech. So, we’ll be incredibly curious to check out this new offering and expect some cool (and more affordable) things ahead. *Editor’s note: We grabbed the featured image from [the Rivian Newsroom]().
