We are entering a strange new electrified automotive world, and Stellantis is going all-in with the upcoming Ram 1500 REV full-size truck. However, the automaker realizes not all truck buyers are all in on this EV thing, so it’s hedging its bet in a surprising way. The bet? It’s called 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger.

### **\[Related content: [Hemi dead! 2025 Ram 1500 gets Hurricane power, new trim](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2023/11/2025-ram-1500-gets-hurricane-power-new-top-tier-trim/>)\]**

Soon, buyers who might rate range anxiety too high on their list to opt for the all-electric REV are about to have a new option, and it might not be what you think.

## **Groundbreaking powertrain**

I think people overuse the term “groundbreaking,” but I have to admit this is pretty impressive stuff. The Ramcharger is a battery-electric vehicle, but not one like we’ve seen before. It has a liquid-cooled 92 kWh battery pack that is paired with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine acting as an on-board 130 kW generator. Before you say, “bro, that’s a hybrid,” nope it’s not. The familiar Pentastar V-6 found in other Stellantis products is not attached to the wheels in any fashion. The V-6 generates mechanical power, which is then converted to electrical power, which can be used to charge the battery when the battery is depleted or to store up power for later if the driver wants to preserve the battery power.

## **2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger has tons of range**

So, what does that mean for actual range? Well Ram is targeting 690 miles. As a reminder, the [upcoming all-electric Ram REV](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2023/04/500-miles-of-range-2025-ram-1500-rev-details-revealed/>) has an estimated 350 miles of range with the standard battery pack and 500 miles with optional large battery pack. The boxed frame in the Ramcharger is similar to what you’ll find on the all-electric RAM 1500 REV and is widened to protect the battery and 27-gallon fuel tank. So, yeah, you’re going to have to fuel up your Ramcharger occasionally, but that fuel will be used to max out the range.

Ram wouldn’t comment on towing range but noted there will be a towing drive mode (in addition to snow and off-road) to maximize range while tackling your towing needs. Speaking of modes, the Ramcharger has quite a few of them that are specific to the EV system. “Electric+” mode will let the battery drain down to around 145 miles, and then the generator will start to charge the system. Meanwhile, other modes like “E-save” will run the generator full-time in the background to maintain the charge, and “Eco mode” will prioritize the EV propulsion function over other systems like climate control, generating a new pedal map to extend range even further.

There is even a one-pedal driving mode if you are so inclined.

## **Basic to ultra-luxury trim levels**

Ram product folks noted a full run-down of trim levels isn’t quite done, but the press material revealed some familiar trim levels will be available on the Ramcharger. They include the basic worksite hero Tradesman, as well as escalating trim levels like the Big Horn, Laramie and Limited. The big news is the addition of the top-spec Tungsten trim level that is said to add an “ultra-luxury” level to the Ramcharger lineup. Highlights include upgraded dual-textured metal accents, a suede-wrapped headliner, heated and ventilated premium quilted Natura Plus leather front seats with 24-way power adjustments and a massage function.

However, a lot of the upgraded materials and tech will be available on lower-trim models representing a nice interior upgrade across the lineup.

## **Loads of tech**

The next generation of Ram truck wouldn’t be complete without a host of technology upgrades and the new Ramcharger seems like it should deliver on that aspect. Screens are literally everywhere, including a new 14.5-inch primary touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch passenger screen, a digital rearview mirror, head-up display (HUD) and a Klipsch Reference Premiere 23-speaker system (1,375 watts).

Expect to see the Unconnect 5 system on-board, which will include a bunch of EV pages to let you monitor and control your Ramcharger’s powertrain. Highlights include:

- **Power Flow:** Highlights the current flow of power through the vehicle (in kW).
- **Range Impact:** Shows you how to reduce energy consumption and increase range on the go or while planning a trip.
- **Driving History:** Displays a power/charge bar chart to help you understand energy consumption and regeneration (visible in current, weekly, two-week and four-week intervals).
- **Charge Schedules:** Lets the driver select the optimal charging schedule.
- **Max Battery Level:** Allows drivers to choose between an 80% charge level for daily/towing needs (optimized for battery performance), or max it out with a 100% level (for long distance needs).

## **Impressive performance**

If nothing else, the battery-electric trend has certainly shown what it can do in the acceleration department. Ram engineers claim the new Ramcharger can hit 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, which would be fast for a performance car, much less a full-size truck. That’s due to the 663 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque coming from the EV system, but it also means that the Ramcharger can tow up to 14,000 pounds and support a payload of up to 2,625 pounds. That’s all comparable to the Ram REV’s performance numbers and should be a pretty big selling point for buyers.

## **The bottom line**

Time will tell whether this “not quite an EV” but still “not a hybrid” version of a full-size truck will be a success. Ram is differentiating it from the gas-engine models with a new body-colored front fascia, an illuminated RAM logo with additional “tuning fork” style lighting across the grille and unique tail lights. I’m sure there are those out there who like the concept of the electric REV but aren’t yet buying in on the logistics of the charging network quite yet. For them the Ramcharger is a great option in the Ram 1500 truck lineup. Availability should kick off around the end of 2024, so keep an eye on our site for more information as we get it!

Based in Maryland, he has had a long history of writing and editing for automotive sites and spent way too much of his youth on car forums. He has owned a few dozen cars and has a penchant rear-wheel-drive V8s. He spent most of his 20s on tracks in the Mid-Atlantic and killing cones in parking lots and has even taught at a teen performance driving school.",
