In addition to handsome good looks that rival [Lexus sib GX](), you have some interesting tech paired with off-road chops. While the pictures will speak for themselves in terms of design, here are some of the most important things to know about the return of the legendary Land Cruiser. ## **No V-8, hybrid-only powertrain** When we last saw the Land Cruiser in 2020, it was equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that delivered 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Well, the age of the V-8 at Toyota is gone, smashed to pieces with the introduction of [the new Toyota Tundra](). Now we have a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine under the hood. And, nope, it doesn’t have more horsepower than the previous V-8 – but it does get more torque. The engine is mated to a 48-horsepower electric motor, and the total system output is 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Interestingly, the base powertrain for the GX will be a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V-6 straight gas engine. We’re guessing the parent company did this to differentiate the two vehicles. We also suspect this helped with price. ## **![2024 Toyota Land Cruiser]()** ## **Base price in the mid-$55k range** Though we don’t have any exact pricing information available, Toyota has stated the base price will be in the mid-$55k range. While this trim won’t bring the highest tech features, it will still include some solid capability. More pricing information will be available closer to when vehicles start arriving in dealers, which is the spring of 2024. Therefore, we anticipate will see full pricing in early 2024. ## **There are 3 trims** Speaking of trims, at launch the 2024 Land Cruiser will only have three options: Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser First Edition. Basic feature inclusions are as follows: ![2024 Land Cruiser trims]() The First Edition will have 5,000 units available in North America (not just the U.S.), and it will come equipped with round heritage LED headlights, roof rack, rock rails and an exclusive interior design. ## **Engineered for the off-road** The 2024 Land Cruiser will be built on the same TNGA-F body-on-frame platform seen on the GX. It’s a ladder frame with more rigidity than the previous 200 Series model. The new Land Cruiser is also 4.4 inches narrower and 1.2 inches shorter for better off-road accessibility. Off road stats of note include a ground clearance of up to 8.7 inches, an approach angle of 31 degrees, a max departure angle of 22 degrees and a breakover angle of 25 degrees. Get this: front recovery hooks are standard. So are crawl control and downhill assist control. Available off-road features include rock rails, full-coverage skid plates, a Multi-Terrain Select with various terrain modes and more than 100 genuine accessories. Also of note: The 2024 Land Cruiser can tow up to 6,000. ## **![2024 Toyota Land Cruiser]()** ## **Cool tech available** One of the best things about getting a Land Cruiser in the 2024 model year is all the updated tech we’ll see in addition to the off-road capability. While an 8-inch screen with Toyota’s new multimedia system is standard on the 1958, a 12.3-inch screen is standard starting at the mid-level Land Cruiser trim. You’ll also see standard wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, over-the-air updates, heated cloth front seats, front USB-C charge ports, push-button start and passive entry. Available tech features include digital key (subscription required), wireless charging, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, heated-and-ventilated front seats, 4G connectivity for up to five devices and rear USB-C charge ports. Though this is probably a “duh” statement at this point with regard to any Toyota vehicle, we’ll state it anyway: Safety is standard. The 2024 Land Cruiser comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane trace assist, adaptive cruise control, road-sign assist and automatic high beams. Other standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and hill-start assist control. ## **The bottom line** While the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser won’t be as bougie as the Lexus GX, obviously. it will still get some seriously upgraded tech paired with heritage-inspired design and off-road prowess. If this [new Land Cruiser]() drives as well as it looks, Toyota will have a clear winner on its hands.
