Nissan Frontier gets two more years By Jill Ciminillo Published: 2023-08-18T21:03:52+00:00 Updated: 2025-07-23T15:11:43+00:00 ![Featured image]() The midsize truck segment is hot right now, but now that Nissan has [axed its full-size Titan](), a curious consumer might wonder if the automaker is exiting the truck segment altogether. Well, according to a recent supplier memo, the answer appears to be not yet. Nissan Frontier, at least, will be getting an extra two years on the line. ## **What’s the sitch?** In [a recent Automotive News story](), the publication got its hands on a supplier memo that states the production of [the current-gen Frontier]() will remain at the Canton, Mississippi, factory through 2029. Previously, Automotive news had stated the midsize truck was due for a redesign in the second half of 2027. Now with the production extension in Mississippi, it is unlikely for the truck to undergo any significant refresh or redesign until that time. Considering the last redesign was 17 years in the making, 8 years is brief lifecycle for this truck ## **So many questions** But as Nissan starts to ramp up its electric production, the big question is: Will the Frontier get a life beyond 2029. If it stays in production, will it continue to be a gas vehicle? And, though Nissan has exited the full-size truck market, could it be gearing up to bring [a compact truck]() to market? The answer to all these questions? We have no clue. However, we will point out the Nissan Frontier holds its own in [sales for the midsize truck segment](). In Q2 this year, the Frontier ranked third (17,213) behind the ever-popular Toyota Tacoma (63,262) and Chevy Colorado (19,909). Assuming sales stay strong, Nissan would be silly to discontinue the truck. ## **The bottom line** Technology is advancing at such a rapid rate, that it’s really hard to tell what’s happening next year, let alone 6 years from now. We’d like to think the Nissan Frontier will soldier on, but with Nissan’s focus on EVs, who knows. Unless the automaker is planning for an electric version?
