And that’s exactly what you get with the 2024 Mazda CX-5. Very few. Similar to [the 2024 CX-50](), there’s really not much new for the upcoming model year, except a price increase. So, let’s take a quick look at what’s new on the 2024 CX-5. ## **A $2,700 base price increase** Before you release an insulted gasp, let’s be clear: Mazda has done away with the base 2.5 S trim. So, though the base price increases by $2,700, the 2.5 S Select, which becomes the new base trim, only has a price increase of $900, which is reasonable for a model year increase. There are also now three Turbo trims, instead of two. The price spread between base and top trims is $11,300. One other thing to note, the destination fee increases by $100 for 2024. New for 2024, Mazda adds what it calls i-Stop technology, which is a fancy phrase for auto stop-start, which turns your engine off when you come to a stop. The good news: You add 2 MPG in combined driving, and the 2024 average is 28 MPG. The bad news: You now have to hit a stupid button to deactivate the system every time you drive if you don’t like it. Which I don’t. The press release doesn’t make any mention of adding this technology to the turbo engine. ## **New Carbon Turbo trim** The Carbon Turbo trim slots in as the base turbo model with the Turbo Premium and Turbo Signature models following. This model comes with the 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque – [with premium fuel](). This model is available with the premium Zircon Sand Metallic and Rhodium White exterior paints, and it gets and exclusive terracotta-and-black interior with leather seats and sueded inserts. ## **The bottom line** The CX-5 is the best seller for the Mazda brand. So, why change what works? I’m definitely bummed by the addition of auto stop/start tech, but assuming it wasn’t an accidental omission, that gives buyers even more reason to get behind the wheel of a Turbo model.
