Publisher Tim Esterdahl recently had the wiring done to be able to add a Level 2 charger to his garage, and in [this video]() he shows us how he set up his own Lectron Level 2 charger. Watch now to learn what comes in the box, how it works and how to install the charger. ## Installing your own Level 2 charger Before we get started it’s important to note that this is a charger install, not a how-to-wire-up-a-240-plug video. Please hire a professional electrician to get the power to your garage! Then you can buy a charger like this [14-50 plug 40 Amp Level 2 J1772 Charger]() and safely install it yourself. This type of charger is really plug-and-play, but one thing that stands out about the Lectron Level 2 charger is that it comes with a mounting bracket for the inverter. This is huge. Literally. I’ve charged a lot of EVs in my garage and sometimes that inverter is so heavy it pulls the plug out of the wall, and we have to find something to prop it up on. So having a bracket to hang it on takes the whole charger from an awkward heavy box on a cord to an actual charging station on the wall. Voila! ## But wait. Don’t cars come with charging cables? Sure, most do, but a lot of times they are for 110 charging, or they are something you want to keep in your car in case you need to charge away from home. So having your own heavy-duty charger on the wall at home will prove convenient because you can just leave it there, and all you have to do when you get home is plug in. ## Lectron Level 2 charger [This particular charger]() fits most current EVs (Sorry, Tesla owners, you’ll need a different model) and seems to be made really well.
