Since the Ford F-150 was all-new [for the 2021 model year](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/11/2021-ford-f-150-powerboost-first-drive/>), we aren’t due for a complete redesign just yet. But it is time for a mid-cycle refresh, and we expect to see some changes for the 2024 F-150.

Though we currently don’t have much in the way of official announcements for the upcoming model year, here’s what we know and what we expect for the 2024 F-150.

## **Fewer configurations**

One of the few things we do know is Ford Motor Company is going through some restructuring, and the internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles fall under a division called “Ford Blue.” While there’s a lot of investment going on in the EV sector, there’s cost cutting happening in the traditional ICE business. And, before you jump to conclusions, no, the gas-powered F-150 isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

However, according to [a recent Automotive News article](<https://www.autonews.com/talk-top/fords-kumar-galhotra-talks-cost-cuts-potential-ice-growth>), Ford is going to reduce the orderable combinations on the F-150. This is to reduce about 2,400 parts in the current F-150 – which means fewer parts to engineer, test and manage quality.

What does this mean for the 2024 F-150? We’ll likely see fewer configurations, fewer options and fewer trims. While we don’t know what will hit the chopping block yet, expect the lower-volume trims to go away and fewer color combinations. Plus, any refresh that happens to the interior will include more interchangeable features between trims.

## **Small interior refresh**

Due to some [recent spy shots](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2023/03/2024-ford-f-150-interior-facelift-spied/>), we know there will be a new button array on the center stack as well as new HVAC controls. We’ll also see a facelifted digital cluster as well as some new infotainment graphics.

What stays the same? Pretty much everything else. Lower trims will still get a column shifter, and we’ll still see the same bulky gearshift lever on the console area, complete with fold-flat trick, that’s on current models.

While many people might have expected a larger interior redesign given the complete refresh given to the GM full-sized truck twins, what we want to say is: Ford did it right the first time and, therefore, not as many changes are needed.

## **A new grille, tailgate**

Late last year, we saw some [heavily camouflaged exterior shots](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2022/12/spied-2024-ford-f-150-testing-what-we-expect/>) of the 2024 F-150, but we saw enough to know the exterior will get a minor facelift as well. We’ll see a new front fascia, revised headlights, new rear bumper, new tailgate and a new grille.

Because Ram and GM both have variations of multi-function tailgates, we can expect some kind of tailgate trick on the 2024 F-150. In fact, as [Muscle Cars & Trucks points out](<https://www.musclecarsandtrucks.com/2024-ford-f-150-prototypes-spotted-out-west/>), FoMoCo has a filed patent drawings for a three-door tailgate system that allows for dropping the tailgate like normal as well as a swing-out door and an integrated bumper step.

## **The bottom line on the 2024 F-150**

Yeah, we’re basing a lot of this article on spy shots and speculation, but now that we’ve seen the 2024 Ford Ranger, we expect to see 2024 F-150 news soon. So stay tuned …

In the meantime, if you had a direct line to the 2024 F-150 and could change or add anything to the full-size truck, what would it be? Comment below.
