The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has not been revealed. Nope, the last teaser we saw with its mysterious 040423 license plate was simply [a tease to a teaser](). This time, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-Force Max engine has been revealed along with a badge. ***UPDATE: [Additional photos were released]() on Toyota’s website that show more detail and give us an even better idea of what to expect on the 2024 Tacoma.*** The 2024 Tacoma is going to be a full redesign of the best-selling midsize pickup — the first since the 2016 model year. It is expected to incorporate many of the new Toyota Tundra changes along with some tricks of its own. ## **2024 Toyota Tacoma i-Force Max?** We have [speculated for a while]() that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will come in a hybrid version, and now we know for sure. This news comes a few days after [the 040423 teaser,]() which left many speculating the full Tacoma reveal would happen on that date. But alas, in the 28-word press release, Toyota merely says the new Tacoma will have “electrifying i-Force Max” performance. Along with the engine reveal, we see an image of the tailgate with the new badge and some design changes. If the i-Force Max name sounds familiar, it should. It is the same name for the [2022 Toyota Tundra hybrid engine](), which produces 437 horsepower at 5,200 RPM and staggering 583 pound-feet of torque at 2,400 RPM. This powertrain was setup to be better at towing and off-road adventures with more torque than the non-hybrid 3.5-liter V-6. Basically, it is the same engine, but one has a motor generator utilizing a clutch pack in the transmission to tap into the 288-volt sealed Nickel-metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery placed under the rear seats. It doesn’t provide much improvement in fuel economy in the Tundra, however, with the non-hybrid returning: 17/23/19 MPG (SR, SR5) and 17/22/19 MPG (Lim., Plat., 1794). The hybrid i-Force Max returns: 19/22/20 MPG (Lim., Plat., 1794, Capstone) and 18/20/19 MPG (TRD Pro) city/highway/combined. Both versions are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. ## **What else is there about the tailgate?** It is hard to see the changes in the tailgate without seeing the old versus the new (see below). The chief change is the embossed lettering onto the tailgate, something Toyota has done since the 2014 Tundra. Overall, the tailgate looks mostly identical to the Toyota Tundra including the sequential taillights and wraparound rear bumper. ## **The bottom line** Sorry, Toyota Tacoma fans, you are going to wait a little while longer before we see the full images of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Much like Toyota did with the Tundra, they are teasing out [various pieces of the truck]() with clues in images posted on their Instagram account as well as through media press releases. There is sure to be more in the coming weeks.
