By Jill Ciminillo Published: 2022-12-14T17:10:07+00:00 Updated: 2026-08-19T16:03:34+00:00 ![Featured image]() Yesterday, a spate of new spy shots of the U.S. Ford Ranger pass through the interwebs. While it’s hard to see what’s going on under the camouflage at times, there are a few things that look noticeably different. ### **New brake light position** If you look at the global model, the brake light appears on the tailgate above the release button. It’s slim and positioned in a missable location. For the U.S., it appears Ford has moved the brake light above the rear window in a much bigger more obvious location. ### **No bumper steps?** One of the more useful features we saw on the global model were the side bumper steps located on the cladding just behind the rear wheels. This allows for better bed access, and it’s a feature we’ve seen – and loved – on trucks from General Motors. However, on the U.S. Ford Ranger, if the exposed cladding is to be believed, there are no bumper steps. ### **Small design tweaks** Though the headlights and taillights appear to be identical to the global model, it looks like there might be some design tweaks to the front fascia. The top portion and the upper bar look the same, but there could be some small changes on the lower fascia. Though it’s hard to tell with the black sheer sheet in addition to the black-and-white camo. ### **Any word on powertrain?** While we still haven’t heard anything official here, as we mentioned in our [“what to expect” article](), it would be logical to use the same powertrains we see in the Bronco, since they have the same underpinnings. However, we do still think the new Ranger will offer a hybrid option, which the Bronco doesn’t have, since both F-150 and Maverick do. But what that hybrid will be is still in question. Lately, there have even been rumors of [a plug-in hybrid electric version]() (PHEV) with up to 40 miles of all-electric range. ### **The bottom line on the U.S. Ford Ranger** Ford Motor Co. has done an excellent job keeping the U.S. Ford Ranger under wraps, and we still have very few concrete details. We know it’s coming. We’re pretty sure it’ll be a 2024 model. And we have a good idea of what it will look like based on the global model. But that’s it. So, stay tuned for more info when we get it, which will hopefully be by this summer.
