The Chevrolet Blazer is one of the first gasoline vehicles in the Chevy lineup [to get the EV treatment](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2022/01/gm-adds-equinox-and-blazer-evs-before-the-silverado-ev/>). And, unlike [the Silverado EV](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2022/01/2024-chevy-silverado-ev-5-things-to-know/>), the Blazer EV kinda looks like its gasoline counterpart. On the outside at least. The exterior lines are remarkably similar, even if the headlight and taillight treatments scream “I’m an EV.” Plus, you’ll see an interesting detail in front of the driver’s side front wheel, which houses a pop-out panel covering the charge port.

The interior gets a huge tech upgrade with integrated and attractive digital display, available Super Cruise and an electric column shift wand instead of a console-mounted gear stick.

Here are five other things to know about this all-electric midsize SUV.

### **Up to 320 miles of range**

Chevy hasn’t released a lot of specifications on the Blazer EV just yet. But the “wow” spec it has released is that it will get “up to” 320 miles of range. Because this new EV will have front-, rear- *and*all-wheel-drive availability, we don’t know which model configuration will get the 320-mile range. Our guess is this higher range will be on front-wheel-drive models.

We don’t have any word on the ranges of the other drivetrain configurations, and we also don’t know if there will be standard and long-range battery options and what those may be.

Additionally, we don’t have much information on charging times. Chevy said the Blazer EV will get an 11.5 kW onboard AC charging module as well as have fast-charge capability up to 190 kW. This means it can add 78 miles of range in 10 minutes, but that’s all we got.

### **An all-electric SS trim?**

The Blazer EV will have four trims: a 1LT, 2LT, RS and SS. Yep, you heard that last one correctly, and it’s Chevy’s first electric performance model. We see this as paving the way for electric versions of the Corvette and Camaro – especially since it will have a performance AWD propulsion system and deliver 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque. Gulp. That translates into 0-to-60-MPH acceleration of less than 4 seconds. In a midsize SUV.

The SS will also get a unique front grille, two-tone exterior color scheme, 22-inch wheels and microfiber seats.

The RS and SS trims will get unique stitching accents, a full front light bar, choreographed exterior welcome lighting, heated-and-vented front seats and available heated rear seats.

### **It gets the Ultium battery**

General Motors pioneered the Ultium battery in [the Hummer EV](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2022/04/2023-gmc-hummer-ev-a-big-truck-with-a-big-personality-and-a-big-price-tag-first-drive/>), and it is now the foundation of GM’s EV strategy – especially since it replaced the Bolt EV’s fire-prone battery with it earlier this year. The Ultium battery is highly flexible, which is how the Blazer EV can get front, rear *and*all-wheel drive as well as up to 320 miles of range.

As the press release points out, the Ultium platform and positioning of the battery creates a lower center of gravity that enhances driving stability.

### **It’ll get a PPV model**

The Detroit Three are well known for providing Police Pursuit Vehicles, and this is the first time we’ve seen the availability of an all-electric PPV. It’ll be based on the SS model, and it will get the largest Ultium battery for the Blazer EV and be available both in RWD and AWD configurations.

It’ll also get high-performance front Brembo brakes and a purpose-built police-specific interior to accommodate emergency equipment and gear.

### **Available in the summer of 2023**

We still have a full year before we’ll be able to see the Blazer EV on the streets. The 2LT and RS trims will go on sale in the Summer of 2023 as 2024 models, and the SS will follow later in 2023. We won’t see the 1LT or PPV versions until early 2024.

Base pricing will be as follows:

- **1LT:** $44,995
- **2LT:** $47,595
- **RS:** $51,995
- **SS:** $65,995

For reference, the base price of the Ford Mustang Mach E, which is unavailable to order right now, is $44,995 (aka, exactly the same). One important difference, however, is that General Motors is no longer eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit, whereas Ford Motor Co. is — at least for a little while longer.

### **The bottom line on the Blazer EV**

More than the Silverado EV, I think the Blazer EV is just what Chevy needs to kick its electric-vehicle strategy into high gear. It doesn’t look weird, it has nice available range, and the interior looks really good.

While we know more than we did yesterday about this new EV, we still don’t know a lot – like the entire range lineup and actual 10% to 80% DC fast-charge times. We’ll keep our ears to the ground, and when we know more, you will, too.
