While there is [a lot of controversy]() about the safety of these larger trucks, we wanted to do a [side-by-side comparison]() to show the difference. ### What a difference eleven years makes Publisher Tim Esterdahl has a neighbor who owns a 2011 Silverado 2500 truck with a Z71 package, so when he got to review a 2022 Silverado 2500 with the same package he had to get these trucks side by side. Wow! Even without the measuring tape, we can see a huge difference in the size of these trucks. Granted [the new truck]() has larger tires and the overall design of the truck has changed some with a more menacing grille giving the truck a beefier look. But check out the bed test where Esterdahl’s neighbor tries to reach in a get something out of the bed. Crazy right? ### With trucks getting bigger, is safety a concern? This is the question that ruffles feathers. It seems obvious that the impact from a larger, heavier vehicle would cause more damage. But that doesn’t mean that more damage is actually caused than what we’ve seen in years past. Thanks to new technologies — such as lane keep assist, radar, cross-traffic alerts, emergency braking and cameras — modern vehicles, no matter their size, are safer for anyone in their path than they were just a few years ago. So yes, trucks are growing in size. And things like the [bed steps]() on this 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 are a necessity, not a luxury. But we’re not sure that’s a bad thing. What do you think?
