The problem is the “Skid Control ECU software may not turn on the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system when the vehicle is restarted after the driver has disabled the VSC system,” according to a filing on [NHTSA.gov](). Due to this stability control software glitch, the vehicles are out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards as well as they could be more likely to lose control and could increase the risk of an accident. Toyota says dealers will update the Skid Control ECU free of charge.
