By Erica Mueller Published: 2022-04-15T12:09:26+00:00 Updated: 2026-08-19T15:58:23+00:00 ![Featured image]() In this 2022 Ram 1500 towing video, the third in this series, we set out to see how the 2022 Ram 1500 performed in our tow test, pulling a [travel trailer]() over the Wildcat Hills of Nebraska. (“Wait,” you say. “Nebraska has hills?” Guess you’d better [watch the video]() and find out!) ### A few facts Perhaps the 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel G/T with V-8 eTorque engine isn’t what you’d normally think of choosing for a tow test, but it’s what Publisher Tim Esterdahl had at his disposal, so we’re gonna run with it. This is a four-wheel-drive pickup truck with a crew cab configuration and a 5.58-foot bed. The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with eTorque produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Of all the trucks driven in this series, this may be the strongest and fastest. But will it be the best? With a 11,220-pound max tow rating and 1,324-pound payload limit it certainly is capable. Finally, this truck’s fuel economy is rated at 17/23/19 MPG (city/highway/combined), and it has a 26-gallon fuel tank. Unlike the other trucks, this truck has air suspension so you can raise and lower the truck or, if needed, the truck may raise itself. ### The test: 2022 Ram 1500 towing After attaching the trailer and lights, Esterdahl hops inside the truck to show us the tow-haul tools (or lack thereof) in the Ram 1500. Then he takes the truck on the same 50-mile loop, pulling the same camper he pulls in the other tow test videos and comes back to report on the real-world fuel economy. Along the way he comments on the ride, the temperature of the transmission and more. Basically, if you’re wanting to know how this truck does towing, Esterdahl will tell you!
