With its city friendly size, the compact pickup seemed like a big hit, and it has since [sold out for the 2022 model year]() with orders now being placed for the 2023 model year. Since the Ford Maverick is completely new, that means it’s fraught with problems, right? Sort of. Before you jump on the bandwagon, let’s take a look at 2022 Ford Maverick known problems so you can be an informed consumer. ### **Major 2022 Ford Maverick known problems** For this known problem list, I’m going to split the issues into major and minor. Also, I need to give a massive shout out to the *[Maverick Truck Club]()* members for putting together an exhaustive spreadsheet on the known problems. Starting with the major issues, there have been three recalls on the compact pickup so far. These recalls include a rear seat buckle not being properly attached, the fuel tank may have been damaged thanks to drill holes during installation of the spray-in bed-liner and a software issue for towed trailer with either electric or electric over hydraulic brake system not operating. Looking further into the list and comparing my own notes, the other major issues have been reports of transmission issues, shifting and high revs, paint chips and a big shudder and jerking when the hybrid switches from gas to battery mode. [As someone who owned the Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid setup](), I can confirm the first initial times the hybrid kicked on, it is rather abrupt and grabs your attention. Not a fault or problem per se, just something to know. Finally, there have been reports of the radio freezing ([SSM 50411]()), hood flutter ([TSB 04-18-8]()) and the Ford Pass App remote start runs the engine rich causing the catalytic convertor to turn red hot ([TSB 22-2124]()). There are corresponding Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) and/or Special Service Messages (SSM) for each of these issues. Basically, TSB and SSM are documents alerting the Ford dealership team to these protentional issues and how to resolve them. ### **Minor Ford Maverick issues** One the list of minor issues are a myriad of various items. For example, there are reported issues with a [dead battery](), missing antenna from factory, hard bed cover leaking, weather stripping misaligned, tailgate not aligned properly, tire alignment, rattles from loose components, windshield cracks and issues with some of the parking sensors having corrosion. Again, these issues have been pretty minor with just a few reports out there from new owners. ### The bottom line on 2022 Ford Maverick known problems Looking at this list, the synopsis is the known problems have been pretty minor overall so far. Sure, if you are one of the affected owners, you aren’t happy having an issue with a brand new truck. Yet looking at this list in the grand scheme of things, the problems shouldn’t scare you away, and it is much better list than the problems the [Ford Bronco]() faced.
