One of the more confusing things for consumers and dealers is waiting for a new truck that seems to be finished but is not shipping. I recently received this email from Frank wondering about his new truck hold up. Hopefully, my answer will help him and help you as well.

*Tim,*

*I enjoy your YouTube channel a lot and used it in my research to purchase – or should I say, put a deposit down on – a GMC Sierra 2500 AT4. The real test of your channel is even after making the decision, I still watch all your videos.*

*What impresses me most is your research, and it seems like you get to the the experts. I can only imagine the volume of story ideas so here’s mine to toss on the pile or into the trash can.*

*Going into my purchase, I understood the chip shortage so I purposely searched for a vehicle that was already produced having a VIN, order number and dealer stock number assigned. Working with the dealers was a little of a learning experience because some wouldn’t respond unless I gave a deposit on a vehicle while I was on the phone. I finally did find a dealer and worked out a decent deal. So I put a deposit down on a 2500 AT4, with a VIN, order number and stock number. That was 60 days ago.*

*For the past 60 days it has been waiting in Flint, Michigan, to be put on a train to go to the distribution center to then wait to be put on a truck to the dealer. Again, this is not a chip shortage issue as the truck is built (confirmed by reaching out to GM). Also, my salesperson is frustrated as I’m sure he wants to be paid for the sale.*

*Looking a the forums, this is common, and looking at the GM website for inventory, it is astonishing to see on the east coast how few 2500s are on lots versus in transit. Many people are months out with some thinking their produced vehicle is lost!*

*Thanks in advance for your consideration.*

A rather the new truck hold up is frustrating issue for sure. Here is my answer:

Hello Frank,

First, thanks for watching!

As to your question, yeah, it is a parts issue and still could be a semiconductor issue. Why? Ford, GM, Ram and Toyota (basically everyone) has been doing the same thing you describe. They can’t hold vehicles inside the factory and stop production while waiting for parts. Instead, they build them and park them outside until the part arrives.

This literally happened to me twice recently with the [2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/12/bought-2021-ford-f-150-powerboost/>) I bought and the [2022 Toyota Tundra](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/12/we-got-our-2022-toyota-tundra-limited/>). Both of these trucks were missing a part and sat around waiting to be finished.

The reality is the truck may seem finished, but it is either waiting for a part or for a transport (another issue is lacking of transport drivers). You won’t receive communication from the automaker because they simply don’t have an estimated timeframe. Most trucks are a combination of parts, and the part suppliers are building and shipping things as fast as they can. They don’t have an ETA usually or that ETA changes due to delays in the parts pipeline since parts makers also source materials to build the part. It is essentially a logistical issue and a tough one to untangle.

What will happen is the dealer will call you and say the truck is on its way or it has arrived without advance notice. They won’t have an explanation on what happened. You will drive off and be a happy consumer and will eventually forget the whole thing.

### The bottom line on the new truck hold up

Waiting for a new truck is frustrating especially when it seems like it is finished and just needs to be released to the dealer. The problem isn’t that it needs to be released, it’s that everyone – dealers, salespeople and consumers – have so much more information at their disposals (like forums, computer databases and other things) which provide just enough information to make it even more frustrating. Often, the best course of action is to try not to get so deeply involved and let things happen. Sometimes the more you know, is a bad thing. Ignorance is indeed bliss.
