Yup, the bright orange is a hot ticket, but it is hard to build, price and, well, get. Here’s why. Before we dig into how to get the truck, let’s first lay out the details. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is the off-road trim version of the full-size truck and comes in a crew cab, [hybrid-only engine option](). It had been the “halo” model for Toyota until the chrome laden Tundra Capstone made its appearance. Typically, this truck comes with a variety of unique colors, like the Army Green from the last generation, and now the really stunning Solar Octane exterior color has people’s attention. ### **How do you build out the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Solar Octane?** If you are like me, you might have been confused as to why you couldn’t just select the Solar Octane exterior color for the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro on [the configurator](). When I was on the Toyota website, it literally didn’t come up. Is it discontinued already? Nope. The truth is, as weird as it sounds, you have to select the right interior color to get the Solar Octane exterior color. Yup. Initially, the build-and-price tool auto selects the red interior which you can’t get with the Solar Octane exterior color. You have to change the interior to black, then the $495 option for the Solar Octane pops up. ![2022 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO Solar Octane 2]() Even more maddening is all the initial photos on the homepage show the Solar Octane without any mention on this little “trick.” Plus, the build-and-price tool starts off showing the Solar Octane color until you get to the exterior color and then it just shows the white exterior. You’d think a company looking to sell their hot new color on a truck would, well, make it THE one they highlight. ### **That’s NOT ALL!** While that is frustrating, the other thing we are hearing from fans is the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with Solar Octane isn’t available in their area. Yup. That’s thanks to Toyota’s distribution system and the fact you can’t really order a truck to your exact specs. Instead you have to rely on whatever dealer allocation is coming in and choose one from there. This means there will likely be a run on the first TRD Pros hitting the dealer lots. Then, you also have to deal with the fact TRD Pro models — whether it be the [Tacoma](), [4Runner]() or Tundra — are often built in limited varieties seemingly aimed at keeping demand high. Finally, we have heard certain dealers won’t sell to some customers out of their area or state due to concerns over not being able to provide service. It’s clear the TRD Pro is going to be a difficult truck to get your hands on — especially in Solar Octane. ### **The bottom line on 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with Solar Octane paint** Quite simply, this year and likely the next are going to be maddening for customers trying to get the exact truck they want. Most will either compromise or simply throw in the towel trying to get a new truck.
