There will be electric versions of both the Equinox and Blazer, and get this, they’ll be available in 2023. That means both electric SUVs could be out before the Silverado EV, which will be a 2024 model. This is actually big news, yet it was practically glazed over during GM’s spotlight (virtually) during the [Consumer Electronics Show](). So, what do we know about the Equinox EV and Blazer EV? Very, very little — other than the fact that they’ll be in market by the end of 2023. The announcement of the Equinox EV comes on the heels of Chevy’s reveal of the 2024 Silverado EV and confirmation of the Blazer EV SUV, which will be available in spring 2023. ### 2023 Chevy Equinox EV We don’t know range numbers for the Equinox EV, but we do know the estimated starting price will be around $30k, and there will be both fleet and retail versions, including LT and RS trims. Chevrolet estimates the Equinox EV will hit the market by the fall of 2023. “The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.” ### And what about the Blazer EV? We know even less about the Blazer EV than the Equinox EV, and that includes price. We can only assume that the Blazer EV will be slightly more expensive than the Equinox EV, similar to the gasoline versions. The Blazer EV will share the Utlium Battery platform with the Equinox EV. This will allow for mass production of EVs and shows why GM seems to be the most ambitious with its EV future. It aims to have 30 full-electric vehicles by 2030. The Silverado EV and [Sierra EV]() are part of this ambitious future, as is the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, [GMC Hummer EV](), [Cadillac Lyriq]() and, of course, the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV. What else do we know? It just might be the first electric Chevy to hit the market as it’s due out in the spring of 2023. ### The bottom line on GM’s EV future Ford with the [F-150 Lightning]() and Mustang Mach-E and [Tesla]() with its entire electric line may steal the headlines a lot, but with the announcement of electric versions of Equinox and Blazer in 2023, this will give GM a leg up amongst the “Detroit Three” when it comes to electrification.
