Publisher Tim Esterdahl has been waiting several weeks now for the word that his 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited could be picked up at the dealership, and this week he finally got the phone call. He flew to Texas [to take delivery]() and is currently driving this beauty home to Nebraska where it will be his daily driver and work truck for the next several months to a year. In case you’re just joining us, [this truck was bought specifically to do a long-term review]() here on PUTT — same as last year’s [F-150 hybrid](). So, get ready for lots of video content as Esterdahl drives his new truck around, learns about it and reports back here. ### 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited overview If you recall, Esterdahl really wanted to get the [Tundra hybrid](), but that one isn’t available until 2022, so he opted to go ahead and buy the twin-turbo V-6 in Blueprint, and boy is it sharp. This one is a crew cab with a 5-foot bed, and it’s the Limited trim with the TRD and technology packages on top of that. **Things to love:** - Blacked-out wheels/grille. (Man, those look sharp.) - New composite bed with tie-downs, space to install rail system and boards for creating compartments in the bed. This bed is all plastic. Nothing to scratch or rust. (Let’s see how that holds up over time.) - Elbow tailgate release in the taillight. (Dude, that’s genius.) - Gray cloth interior. This looks really nice with the dark blue exterior. (Those all-weather floor mats will be wonderful this winter.) - Two words: panoramic moonroof. - TRD wheels, metal pedals and the red start button are only available on TRD trucks. (Why are red start buttons so fun?) - Heated steering wheel. (Ah! The northerner’s friend.) - Roll-down rear window. This is unique to the Tundra crew cab and is such a nice feature. - Rear camera mirror. - The all-new suspension is a huge improvement over the prior Tundra’s suspension. ### What’s missing on this 2022 Toyota Tundra? What’s missing can be summed up in two words: Running boards. What? A truck this big that doesn’t have running boards? That’s right. A lot of [off-road vehicles]() don’t come with them because they tend to get in the way. But vertically challenged folks like Esterdahl kind of need them. (Ahem.)
