In this video, Publisher Tim Esterdahl tells the story behind his 6-day-old 2022 Toyota Tundra going into the shop and how Toyota’s response to the issue made all the difference in the world. If your 2022 Tundra door lock is going crazy or you know someone who has this issue with their new Tundra, [this video](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDY-P5aAiZM>) is a must-watch.

### Let’s set the stage

After waiting several weeks for his new truck, [Esterdahl finally gets the call that it’s ready to pick up](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/12/we-got-our-2022-toyota-tundra-limited/>). He flies to Houston, Texas, to take delivery at a dealership near the Tundra plant and prepares to drive the truck 11k miles home to Nebraska. Tired, hungry and already frustrated by having to learn a new infotainment system (more to come on that) Esterdahl was surprised to find he may have gotten a lemon of a truck.

### 2022 Tundra door lock goes crazy

You know how new vehicles can automatically lock their doors when you put the car in reverse or drive? Well, the [Tundra](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/12/2022-toyota-tundra-our-first-1000-miles/>) attempted this, but the front driver’s side lock kept locking and unlocking in a fast sequence that would drive anybody crazy. Esterdahl didn’t know what to think, so he shot a quick video and sent it off to someone at Toyota to report it and ask what he might be missing. The issue continued all day and severely complicated getting the truck locked up for the night when Esterdahl had to stop on his long road trip home.

Next morning, the problem was gone. Magically fixed. Tim let the engineers know, but they insisted on coming to have a look at it. That was Friday night. By Monday morning, five engineers from Toyota had made their way to Esterdahl’s hometown dealership in Nebraska. They spent a day and a half going over every inch of the truck, and they were not only able to replicate the issue but also to fix it.

### What this means for you

Toyota went above and beyond for Esterdahl. Yes, its true he has some connections and an everyday customer may not have seen such a quick response, but Toyota didn’t do this just for Esterdahl and the potential feedback on this channel. Toyota did this because it wanted to know if this was going to be an issue with more of its new 2022 Tundra door locks. Additionally, the sooner the automaker knew about the issue and the sooner a fix could be implemented on the line, the fewer people would have issues and need repairs.

Be sure to [watch the video](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDY-P5aAiZM>) for the full story. We think you’ll be impressed, and we know you’ll feel Esterdahl’s pain as he tells the story of trying to get his truck locked up after a long day on the road.

And stay tuned, because Esterdahl has a lot more to share about this truck and his [2022 Toyota Tundra playlist](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4NsASZhxHE&list=PL8PJw4jHcHhcZ_g8aB8-kmhwPfERzJkbD>) is expanding rapidly!
