Ford Motor Company has been celebrating a banner product year in 2021. From its [first all-electric SUV](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/10/3-things-make-the-mustang-mach-e-gt-worthy-of-mustang-name/>) to the relaunch of [the iconic Bronco](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/10/ford-to-bronco-owners-heres-a-photo-of-your-vehicle-delivery-to-come/>) brand to [the 14th-generation](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/11/2021-ford-f-150-powerboost-first-drive/>) F-150, FoMoCo gave its 2021 lineup a serious infusion of fresh product. That doesn’t even include the [2022 Maverick](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/10/2022-ford-maverick-hybrid-gets-better-fuel-economy-than-a-compact-sedan/>) or new [F-150 Raptor](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/02/2021-ford-f-150-raptor-no-it-wont-have-a-v-8-5-other-things-to-know/>) trim.

So yeah, 2021 was a big, big year in Dearborn. It was also a nightmare scenario of supply chain issues, production slowdowns due to a pandemic and just a maelstrom of issues that kept the Blue Oval from firing on all cylinders, so to speak.

The oh-so-important 2021 F-150 launched to much praise and success, including the introduction of the first-ever full [hybrid pickup truck](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op-6Ai51iDI>). With all that in mind, we found it odd we’re a month away from saying good riddance to 2021, and Ford has mentioned nothing about what the 2022 model year will bring to the nameplate.

So, we did a little digging.

### 2022 Ford F-150 changes

Late in the 2021 model year, Ford added some features that weren’t initially available at the launch of the 2021 F-150. These include [Onboard Scales](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/10/ford-f-150-payload-scales-what-it-is-and-how-it-works/>), Smart Hitch, continuously controlled damping and [BlueCruise](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/11/available-or-delayed-ford-bluecruise-confusion-clarified/>). So, all of these features will be available for the 2022 lineup.

Visually speaking, the 2022 model year will return unchanged. But Ford will add a new color named Atlas Blue.

Another aesthetic update is the addition of the STX Black Appearance Package, which will be optional on XL models with the 101A trim level. For 2022, XLT Black Appearance Package will be optional on XLT 301A and 302A Super Cab and SuperCrew models, and Lariat Black Appearance Package will be optional for 502A trims. Lastly, an available Platinum Black Appearance Package will debut for Platinum models.

For the 2022 model year, Ford will also introduce a Bed Utility Package as an option on XL, XLT, Lariat King Ranch, Platinum and Tremor.

### Will the 2022 F-150 have production issues?

According to Mike Levine, Ford Director of Product Communications, 2022 F-150s are expected to start shipping to dealers in the next week or two. Levine also said there are no production delays going on with the 2022 F-150 at this moment.

As for production issues related to the semiconductor microchip shortage that has plague Ford’s entire 2021 production, those issues should alleviate soon thanks to a recently announced partnership with a company named GlobalFoundries Inc.

Ford and GlobalFoundries Inc. announced a strategic collaboration to advance semiconductor manufacturing and technology development within the United States, aiming to boost chip supplies for Ford and the U.S. automotive industry.

“It’s critical that we create new ways of working with suppliers to give Ford – and America – greater independence in delivering the technologies and features our customers will most value in the future,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “This agreement is just the beginning, and a key part of our plan to vertically integrate key technologies and capabilities that will differentiate Ford far into the future.”

### Other changes to the 2022 F-150

You have to be living under a rock, to be unaware of the 2022 F-150 Lightning. This first all-electric truck from Ford will debut in 2022. Production versions of the truck are expected roll off the assembly line early next year at a new high-tech factory using sustainable manufacturing practices at Ford’s storied Rouge complex in Dearborn just outside Detroit.

In fact, the first pre-production versions of the Lightning started [rolling off the line](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/09/f-150-lightning-enters-pre-production-as-ford-doubles-down-on-electrified-future/>) back in September.

According to Ford, [production is not delayed for the Lightning](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/10/no-the-ford-f-150-lightning-production-isnt-delayed/>), and there are more than 150,000 confirmed reservations for this all-electric F-150.

### A V-8 Raptor is coming

Almost lost among the flurry of changes for the 2021 model year was the release of the [third-generation F-150 Raptor](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/08/2021-ford-raptor-with-an-apex-predator-loose-is-it-still-king-of-the-off-road-first-drive/>). There was some disappointment when it was announced that this performance-oriented, off-road truck would not have a V-8, but only get the high-output EcoBoost engine. Sure the 450 horsepower made it the most-powerful F-150 in the lineup, but it still seemed underpowered (to some) when [c](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/02/raptor-vs-raptor-vs-trx-a-spec-by-spec-comparison/>)
[ompared to the Hemi-powered Ram TRX](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/02/raptor-vs-raptor-vs-trx-a-spec-by-spec-comparison/>).

But for 2022, Ford will bring the Raptor R to market, and with it comes a V-8 engine. Very little else is known about the Raptor R, but it will likely be a direct rival to the Ram TRX.

### The bottom line on the 2022 Ford F-150

I still find it curious why, two days before Thanksgiving and only about a month away from a new year, Ford still hasn’t put the 2022 F-150 details up on its [website](<https://www.ford.com/>). It’s not on the media website either.

While I didn’t expect there to be a lot of changes after such a monumental year, I did expect to hear *something* about what’s to come for the 2022 — without having to ask for it. Oh, well. Now you know. And, if nothing else, the best thing that can happen for the 2022 F-150 is simply getting built en mass, so the inventory issues plaguing dealerships can be alleviated.

What do you think about the 2022 F-150? Are there any big updates you were hoping for that Ford missed?
