Ford Motor Co. revealed the Bronco DR, which gets unique body and chassis modifications for high-speed desert racing. Oh, yeah, it gets the Coyote V-8 engine that targets more than 400 horsepower. And in case you missed it, the DR stands for “Desert Racer.” While this will be an actual limited-run production vehicle, the Bronco DR prototype is set to make its race debut in 2022, targeting the Baja 1000. ### **What are the mods?** Though Ford isn’t sharing final specs just yet, we do know, among other things, the Bronco DR will get a Multimatic-enhanced High Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (H.O.S.S.), 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 all-season tires, beadlock wheels, Multimatic FEA-optimized full safety cage with integrated OE ACCRA tubes, race seats, Mot3ec C187 display and a CAN data acquisition system. The Bronco DR, with a race weight of 6,200 pounds, is targeting 55.1% more front suspension travel and 58.6% more at the rear. Off road specs include: - Approach angle: 47 degrees - Departure angle: 37 degress - Breakover angle: 33 degrees ### **It costs how much?** When we said “limited-production,” we should have said *very*limited production, as there will only be 50 (yes, FIVE-ZERO) built for the 2023 model year. The Bronco DR will be available for sale in late 2022, and it will have a starting price in the mid-$200k range. That doesn’t include destination fees. Ford said the Bronco DR prototype debuting in the Baja 1000 will be decked out in Ford Performance red, white, black, and blue livery to honor the stock Bronco that won the Baja in 1969. But, Ford was unclear in [its press release]() whether all 50 would be produced exactly the same or if there were some color options available. And, surprise, the build slots are already open [on the Multimatic website](). ### **The bottom line on the Bronco BR** The Bronco BR is not a status symbol for your average Joe to go get groceries. It’s for off-road use only, and hopefully 50 lucky individuals have a heck of a lot of fun with it playing in the dirt. The build slot form even asks if the vehicle is for recreation or competition.
