After a report of a setback, it seems the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado will, in fact, be on dealer lots by the end of 2021.

While official details have yet to be announced, a [flurry of spy photos](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/05/refreshed-2022-chevy-silverado-gmc-sierra-delayed/>) over the past few months reveal a lot of changes coming to the Silverado.

### **What will the 2022 Chevy Silverado refresh look like?**

On the exterior, it looks like there will be a front and rear fascia including a new grille design. The rest of the sheet metal will likely remain untouched.

We will likely see the most changes on the interior, however, after the 2019 model was routinely criticized for not updating the interior enough — especially with the 2019 Ram 1500 blowing everyone away.

Expect to see a new dash layout similar to [the Chevy Tahoe](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/12/2021-chevy-tahoe-controversial-styling-gearshift-bring-on-the-comments/>). So, that means: a larger infotainment screen, new center stack layout, a digital gauge cluster and the possibility of dropping the column shifter in favor of the console shifter for a cleaner look.

Also, the electrical platform could change over to the new Global B architecture meaning it will be more advanced and able to provide more technology features like the Super Cruise, semi-autonomous drive system, coming to the [2022 GMC Sierra 1500](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/12/trailering-hands-free-yep-in-2022-gmc-sierra-gets-super-cruise/>).

We also know of the[powertrain changes](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/03/leaked-2022-chevy-silverado-1500-engine-changes-transmission-news/>) thanks to the leaked information from a GM presentation at the Work Truck Show.

Finally, Chevrolet has confirmed a [Silverado ZR2 version](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/06/chevy-officially-announces-silverado-zr2/>) using the technology from the Colorado ZR2 and being slotted above the Trail Boss trim, offering customers even more off-road capability.

### **When will it hit dealer lots?**

*[GMAuthority.com](<https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/07/refreshed-chevy-silverado-1500-will-be-a-2022-model-year-vehicle/>)* says the plan is to offer a 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited, basically a new model to fill the void between the 2021 Silverado and 2022 Silverado similar to what Ram has done with the Classic and what GM has done before with their trucks.

This will give consumers some choices when they reportedly start ordering the new 2022 Silverado starting on July 15, 2021.

Production of the Limited will begin in September making our guess for the new 2022 Chevy Silverado to start production in November with the goal of being on dealer lots in December — a critical time for commercial truck buyers to get their new vehicle purchases in by year end.

### **The bottom line**

GM is in an interesting spot these days with their trucks still selling well despite a lot of criticism from journalists and consumers over the looks, bland interior and lack of features seen in other trucks. While loyal fans will overlook these shortcomings, the next generation of buyers isn’t nearly as brand loyal, and updating the Silverado to address their concerns will be critical to long-term success.
