Here we go again with the semiconductor shortage affecting [2021 model year GM vehicles](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/06/the-latest-victim-of-the-semiconductor-shortage-2021-chevy-silverado-auto-start-stop/>). While the 1 MPG [drop in fuel economy](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/03/2021-chevy-silverado-gmc-sierra-get-less-mpg-due-to-worldwide-semiconductor-shortage/>) for some trucks didn’t seem like a big deal, and the [loss of HD radio](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/06/2021-chevy-silverado-radio-loses-hd-feature/>) on some models didn’t bother us much, we’re a bit shocked to see GM dropping the wireless charger for the 2021 [Chevrolet Tahoe](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/12/2021-chevy-tahoe-controversial-styling-gearshift-bring-on-the-comments/>), Suburban and [GMC Yukon](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/09/2021-gmc-yukon-denali-next-gen-yukon-gets-tons-of-tech-holds-line-on-price/>) — all three of which were all new for this model year.

### Check models produced after July 12, 2021

This is the date after which many models of the full-size GM SUVs will be produced without wireless charging pads. It may not affect every single trim level, but you will want to check the vehicle’s window sticker when you shop or talk to your dealer if the wireless charging pad is something you must have. Furthermore, in a few years when you’re shopping for a *used* Tahoe, Suburban or Yukon, you’ll want to remember that some 2021 models didn’t come equipped with wireless charging.

### Not just a GM issue

This is a worldwide issue and every brand has been affected. We’ve seen photos of [lots full of Ford trucks](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/02/f-150-production-delay/>) waiting to be completed (a few are [finally ready for dealers](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/07/here-comes-thousands-of-2021-ford-f-150-trucks-to-dealer-lots/>)!) and [Ram 1500 production has been on hold too](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2021/03/2021-ram-1500-classic-on-hold/>). But it seems like GM has been hit especially hard with the latest of their cuts being the auto start/stop feature on some Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks.

### The bottom line on GM dropping the wireless charger

We think the biggest disappointment of all is the savings for these dropped features just don’t add up. Especially for the loss of wireless charging. $75? It would cost way more than that to have the feature installed later (if that’s even possible), and when you’re spending upwards of $60-80k on a vehicle, you kind of expect it to come with things like wireless charging.

But we digress.

What do you think? If you were shopping for a new Tahoe, Suburban or Yukon would not having wireless charging be a make-or-break option for you?
