Since then, we’ve seen some [unique features and colors](). This year, we welcome the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro in Electric Lime Metallic as well as a Trail Edition for the 2022 Tacoma. Both trucks will be available for order this fall. ### **What’s new for the Tacoma TRD Pro?** Let’s start with the increased suspension lift (adds 1.5-inch front and 0.5-inch rear for a total of 9.4 inches of ground clearance) plus TRD forged upper control arms. This will increase the vehicle’s approach and departure angles making it even more capable off-road. There will also be new black 16-inch TRD wheels, fitted with new Goodyear tires and a TRD Pro stamping on the rear quarter panel, plus black badging returns for 2022. We’ll see some new hood graphics available and, of course, the new TRD Pro exclusive paint color seen above. Manual fans rejoice! The 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro will continue to be available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. This truck is only offered as a double-cab 4×4 and has a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The truck’s max towing capacity is 6,400 pounds. In true TRD Pro form, the aluminum skid plate comes standard and so do the unique LED headlights and LED fog lamps. ![2022 Tacoma Trail Edition]() The Trail Edition gets some upgrades including some sweet bronze wheels, skid plates and the Lunar Rock color option. (Photo courtesy of Toyota Motor Sales) ### **New for the Tacoma Trail Edition** The Trail Edition will get an increased suspension lift (added 1.1-inch front, 0.5-inch rear) standard rear locking differential, off-road skid plates and new bronze 16-inch wheels to make sure your Tacoma is trail-ready! A heritage-inspired Toyota grille, equipped with bronze lettering, will tie in well with those bronze wheels, and the available black badging and new hood graphics will help you customize your ride. And like the TRD Pro, the 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition will only be available as a double cab 4WD truck. Available colors will be Lunar Rock (new for 2022), Army Green, Super White, Midnight and Black Metallic. First introduced in 2021, the Trail Edition is based on the SR5 package, but comes with unique standard features such as in-bed storage compartments (one doubles as a cooler!), a 120-volt in-bed power outlet, special safety sensors calibrated to work with the custom lift and a ground clearance of 9.4 inches. ### **The bottom line on the 2022 Tacoma** While not a complete overhaul of the truck, the 2022 Tacoma offers some pretty cool new features for both the TRD Pro and Trail Edition. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the new Electric Lime Metallic paint color for this little truck. I’m not sure what I’ll think of it on the Tundra, but it really works for the Tacoma! I also love the bronze accents for the Trail Edition and the black Tacoma badging on the tailgates. I was a little disappointed that the bronze wheels didn’t mean we’d see a hybrid Tacoma (the bronze package was just announced for the hybrid Highlander), but I’m very pleased to see the TRD Pro offers a [standard transmission]() and I can’t wait to drive one myself!
