(Photo courtesy of Nissan North America) The Nissan Pathfinder has been a favorite of mine since my very first press event, highlighting the 2013 model. I clearly remember falling in love with the crazy amount of cargo space behind the third row — something other three-row SUVs lacked. This week, Nissan announced they have added 10.6 cubic feet of cargo space to this already popular family vehicle, putting the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder right back at the top of my list for a future family car. ### **2022 Nissan Pathfinder: Maximizing utility** While Nissan kept the exterior dimensions nearly the same as the outgoing model, they managed to free up 10.6 cubic feet of space on the interior. Intentional design changes like increased overall vehicle width and a widened rear wheelhouse result in a total of 164.6 cubic feet interior volume. One of the cool additions includes an under-console cubby in the front for your handbag, backpack, diaper bag or lunch box. There is also a new in-floor cargo space under the back cargo floor, which is perfect for things such as jumper cables, first-aid kit, road flares, flashlight and other emergency items you should carry in your car at all times but don’t want to roll around or get in the way when you’re loading up groceries, sports gear or luggage. And now when you fold all the seats down, you get a full 4 feet from front to back allowing you to transport things as large as a 4-foot by 8-foot sheet of plywood. DIYers rejoice! Your family car can now get you in and out of Home Depot with ease. ### **7 or 8 passengers** The new bench-style seat for the second row has room for up to three car seats — a first for the [Nissan Pathfinder](). The center console is easily removed without any tools, to offer a captain’s seat configuration bringing the total passenger capacity from eight to seven. Nissan’s EZ FLEX one-touch button makes it easier than ever to access the third row, even if you have a car seat installed in the second row. And everyone gets more leg and hip room in the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. What’s not to like about that? ### **Drinks all around** Families always love finding out their car has more than enough beverage holders for everyone and the Pathfinder now has 16 — that’s two per passenger! Added storage space above the glove compartment makes a great space for small items such as phones and sunglasses. The only really important question that remains: How many charging ports are available and where they will be located?
