The 2022 Chevy Silverado HD [changes announced]() include the new tailgate option and a new color: Greenstone Metalic. Due to the semiconductor and labor shortages and labor shortages GM has not yet announced the release date for the 2022 models. ### **2022 Chevy Silverado HD changes: Multi-Flex Tailgate for HD trucks** These tailgates will be the same as the ones we’ve seen on the [Chevy Silverado 1500]() and the [Sierra 1500]() trucks. The Multi-Flex Tailgate offers key fob activation and six different configurations for increased tailgate and bed functionality. My personal favorite is the standing desk option, but I could also see myself getting a lot of use out of the step and bed extender. No wonder it’s been a popular feature with Silverado customers with steady increases since production began. The new tailgate will be optional, not standard. ### **What about the ball hitch?** We’ve seen quite a few criticisms surrounding the Multi-Flex Tailgate. If you have a ball hitch installed and you drop that inner gate down, you will likely damage the inner gate. The solution? Either take the ball hitch out when you aren’t using it or grab yourself a [Curt Multi-flex Tailgate Hitch Solution](). This handy little sensor serves as both a lock for the inner gate (the sensor knows when you have a hitch installed) and a cover for your receiver when you don’t have a hitch installed.
