Why in the heck would we do this odd comparison? Well, a few reasons. First, it was luck of the draw for us to have both trucks at once. Second, they are both technically trucks (stay with us on the Ridgeline), so there was some merit to comparing them. Third is a bit more complex. For the third reason, you have to understand people shop for trucks in different ways than you may assume. While for us, these trucks aren’t competitors and wouldn’t be cross shopped. At all. However, it actually does happen — just not in the way you think. There are many consumers out there that might own a Sierra or a Ridgeline and are wondering what the difference is between these trucks. How does the ride quality differ? How does the driver’s seat differ? How much difference is there between price, fuel economy and towing/payload? Those are all legit questions. ### **What’s shocking?** The interesting part and, the shocking part really, is how well the [unibody Ridgeline]() compares to the body-on-frame Sierra. Also, you’ll be shocked to know, the Ridgeline has MORE payload capacity than the Sierra and arguably a better tailgate. You’d also be surprised to know the base price for the [GMC Sierra]() isn’t too far off the [Honda Ridgeline](). Our test model did have the AT4 package and Duramax diesel pushing the price higher. Finally, you’d be surprised to see the fuel economy numbers and how close they are to each other. While the Ridgeline might not be the traditional truck guys’ dream truck (Honda makes no bones about this), it isn’t as shocking of a comparison as you’d imagine to the more traditional truck — the 2020 GMC Sierra.
