Could this be the truck dealers and fans have been clamoring for? Probably not, but it is fun to check out. [Embedded video]() The 2020 Peugeot Landtrek is a metric one-ton pickup meant for Latin American and Sub-Saharan Africa. This truck is a stronger version of the U.S. midsize pickups with the top selling Toyota Tacoma. It also has different physical proportions than the Tacoma as well. ![]()Peugeot is planning for its truck to be offered in both diesel and gas variants with payload topping 2k lbs and towing over 7k lbs. Both of these numbers best the U.S. midsize pickups. ![]() It will also be offered in a chassis cab, double cab and crew cab configuration with a 5′ bed. Inside the cabin, there will be a 10″ screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto available as well as Bluetooth. The bed will feature LED lighting, tie downs and the tube bars common in metric one-ton trucks. There will also be an option to remove the bumper for work truck customers allowing for a 180 degree opening. It will come in 2wd and 4wd with an electronic elocker available for those who want to really try and get it stuck. Peugeot plans to release it later this year. ![]() The proposed merger between PSA and FCA is causing some speculation on the future of this metric one-ton truck. Peugeot announcement of this truck, and their plans to go after the 2.4 million unit market, is on the heels of the merger announcement. The merger seems to be about combining strengths with PSA’s car lineup working well with FCA’s truck and Jeep lineup. However, Peugeot launching its own pickup muddies the thinking. ![]() One does wonder if the R&D, tooling and development is complete on the Landtrek then it would lead itself into becoming a rebadged Ram Dakota here in the United States. ![]() As you can see from the charts and discussion, the truck would need to be reworked for the U.S. market and it is somewhat unlikely this truck would be the one Ram dealers have been clamoring for lately. Yet, never say never.
