This list shows how much depreciation your truck will see on average after buying a new 2019 model. [Embedded video]() Before we get to the list, it should be noted, it only includes trucks that were sold consistently over the past five years. This means trucks like the GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator are omitted from this list. Without further ado, here is the list: ![]() According to iSeeCars.com, they “analyzed more than 7.7 million new and used car sales to identify the models that depreciate the least and most after five years.” “While the average new vehicle loses nearly half of its value after five years, there are vehicles that retain more of their value and depreciate less than average,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “For consumers who purchase new vehicles and sell them after five years, choosing a car that holds its value is a smart economic decision.” Understanding a vehicle’s resale value is an important factor in helping both new and used car shoppers make an informed purchase decision. “If you plan on trading in or selling your next vehicle at around the five-year mark, a car that retains most of its value can lessen the expense of your purchase,” said Ly. “Conversely, if you are a used car shopper, choosing a car that has already taken a depreciation hit can provide you with a significant deal.” ### Our Take Volume of sales probably hurts the F-150 as well as having a lot of fleet sales while the Tacoma’s renowned reliability plays a big role in keeping its resale value high. For the heavy-duty trucks, the diesel engines help raise their resale value while the half-tons lose some due to the majority with gas engines (which have a lower resale than diesel). Finally, Chevy and GMC are clear winners as is Toyota. Ram is surprisingly better than Ford considering Ram’s reputation for quality is lower. It is an interesting list with many different things to talk about and consider.
