![Bizarre Honda Ridgeline Recall - Car Wash Soap Crack Fuel Pump](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/cc_2018HOT010010_01_640_WA.jpg>)In one of the strangest recalls we have ever seen, 106,683 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline pickups are being recalled due to car wash soaping causing the fuel pump to break down and crack. No really.

The NHTSA approved recall, first reported by our friends over at [TheCarConnection.com](<https://www.thecarconnection.com/>), says a faulty fuel pump needs to be replaced since engineers discovered exposure to acids in many car-care products like car wash soaps and other cleaning products can have an adverse reaction with the fuel pump. Basically exposing the fuel pump to the acids in these chemicals can cause it to crack and fail.

Naturally, if the fuel pump cracks and leaks, you could have a fire on your hands IF the conditions are right. Crazy right? Wash your car and a fire could break out?

The recall asked Honda dealers to inspect the fuel pumps for cracks and if no signs are present to install a cover kit over the fuel pump. If the fuel pump does have damage, it will be replaced with a new fuel pump with the aforementioned cover kit.

Honda says most owners will just need the shield with just a few needing a full replacement of the fuel pump. Either way, this recall should be completed ASAP by affecting Honda Ridgeline owners because nobody should lose their fuel pump to a few suds.
