Base pricing for the new Explorer will start at $33,860 ($400 more than prior generation) with an additional $1,095 destination charge according to [Autoblog.com](). Next, the XLT model will be $38,795 ($2,275 more). Moving up to the Limited will set you back $50,320 and that is with the 2.3L turbocharged engine. There is a larger EcoBoost engine, yet we don’t have any information on the price increase. A Hybrid version, available only on the Limited, will translate into a $3,555 premium for what would imagine to be better MPG. We do know the Hybrid will tow 5,000 lbs. The much discussed ST model with its 3.0L twin-turbo motor (400 HP/415 lb-ft of torque) and really sporty styling will run you $56,930. There is an optional track pack for those who really want to boost performance. Autoblog points out that while the new ST performance doesn’t compare to the old, there is a $8,115 price difference. Finally, if you are all in on the top of the line model Platinum, it will set you back $60,440. This represents a price increase of $4,085 over the prior generation, yet Ford did a lot to the new Explorer and it isn’t really a fair comparison. What’s interesting about the Platinum price point though is how close it buts against luxury SUV territory. The Lincoln Aviator, for example, has a base price of $52,195. Granted the top tier Black Label Grand Touring starts at $87,800, but it still seems like somebody shopping for the top tier Explorer might want to look at the Aviator as well.
