The speculation is the new pickup will be coming out before other models as Ford continues to put pressure on its rivals. [Embedded video]() The news is the roll-out of future Ford products will look a little different than first anticipated with a new Explorer, [Bronco]() and F-150 all slated to make their appearances in the near future. This new report states the F-150 will make its debut prior to the Bronco which has been promised for 2020 putting it in between the debut of a new Ford Explorer and after the new Ford Super Duty trucks. However, we are speculating, Ford could easily blow us away next month at the 2019 [North American International Auto Show]() like they have done in years past. The show, aka the Detroit Auto Show, is still one of the largest auto shows in the world and Ford loves to make big news at that show. It is possible then, Ford could show off its newest Super Duty trucks with an “oh by the way” unveiling of a prototype of the new F-150 in either a mock-up form or with teaser photos. This is not unprecedented by the automaker. If the new pickup is shown, we expect several key changes for the next-generation F-150. **Exterior:** Ford’s continual use of aluminum and probably improvements in how they can use the metal in automotive design along with a desire for a new look will lead to a new exterior design. We could see more body lines and a more chiseled front end along with a more stylish tailgate. Also, it is very reasonable to expect changes in the grille design to mirror what we will see in the next-generation Super Duty trucks. **Interior:** This is a no-brainer since all new pickups see interior changes with each generation. Expect Ford to follow suit with new interior styling, new materials and more technology in the cabin. We could also see a change in legroom to follow the path of its competitors in offering more rear leg room (as the new [2019 Ram 1500]() has done) or simply more room overall (like the new Chevy Silverado 1500). **Engines:** It is very likely the last generation F-150 might be the curtain call for the stock 3.3L V6 especially on the heels of a possible [2020 Ford F-150 hybrid]() powertrain coming to the F-150. Ram’s use of a hybrid powertrain as the base engine would also further push this change coming. Ford may also opt for an 8-speed transmission in their work truck to improve fuel economy and further one-up its rivals. Finally, Ford may choose to change the engine tune on the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 to offer slightly more power. This will be likely due to how they brought the high output “Raptor” Ecoboost V-6 to the Limited trim for its customers. We would suspect Ford learns from this and tunes up the EcoBoost with slightly more power than the current 375 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque to be closer to the 450 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque found in the high output EcoBoost. They will still want to leave a gap, but they could do a slight tune. While we haven’t seen any test mules or spy photos yet, this could mean a new Ford F-150 might make its debut much later in the year. However, we didn’t see any spy photos of the Ford GT prior to its debut either. Make no mistake, Ford is well versed in the pickup game and they could go for the ultimate surprise in Detroit.
