It is a bare bones example of what commericial customers can expect to see soon. The bare bones Ranger XL pickup has a black plastic bumper, grille and plain silver steel wheels. It certainly looks like a commericial version of the upcoming re-launch of the U.S. Ford Ranger expected out soon. ![2019 Ford Ranger XL Work Pickup Spied - Bare Bones, No Bed]()This work pickup configuration is without the bed which is pretty common for commercial vehicles. Aftermarket companies will create their own bed additions to fit on top of the frame. Powering this pickup is the, already announced, 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder which will be the only option for the [upcoming Ranger](). It will also use a 10-speed transmission widely used throughout Ford’s vehicle lineup. Specifications haven’t been officially released, but Ford says it will have “class-leading torque” translating into 280 lb-ft. of torque at the very least. ![2019 Ford Ranger XL Work Pickup Spied - Bare Bones, No Bed]()Horsepower might be impressive as well if you compare this engine to others found in Ford’s lineup with the 320 horsepower [Mustang EcoBoost]() and the 350 horsepower Focus RS. We doubt the commercial version will be amped up to provide this much horsepower, instead, better fuel economy will likely be the goal. If you haven’t heard about the Ranger, it is likely because Ford has been cautious about re-entering the mid-size market. The new Ranger will be offered with one engine, limited cabins and an off-road variant. It seems like Ford is still on the fence on whether there is room in the mid-size market for their pickup, but they are willing to give it a shot since competitors seem to be really taking advantage of a growing market. In any event, the pickup isn’t expected out until the later part of this year. The spy photos of this pickup tell us, the official launch could be very soon.
