This is SUV joins the Murano to give Nissan two different hybrid options for consumers looking to save at the gas pump. Before I get into the new powertrain option, I should start with the sharp new exterior on the Rogue. While Nissan started the V-Motion design with Rogue in 2014, it has really accentuated the look on this new model with even sharper styling and new headlights. Also, a reshaped front bumper completes the look. ![2017-nissan-rogue-sl-interior-dashboard-01]()Inside, Nissan has stepped it up again with a new steering wheel design, a new leather boot around the shifter, what appears to be as nicer materials, a new dashboard and door panel finishes. All in all, it is a pretty impressive looking interior especially in a new Platinum Reserve package – top tier trim. ![2017-nissan-rogue-hybrid-sl-engine-bay]()With new looks and interior styling, Nissan topped it off with a new hybrid powertrain. The hybrid combines a 2.0L inline four-cylinder with a 30kW electric motor to produce 174 HP. It is mated to the Xtronic continuously variable transmission to deliver an impressive 5 MPG increase in fuel economy over the standard 170 HP 2.5L inline 4 cylinder. Overall, the Rogue Hybrid is expected to deliver 33/35/34 MPG city/highway/combined for FWD and 31/34/33 MPG city/highway/combined for AWD. Nissan says the core of the system is an Intelligent Dual Clutch Control system. ![17roguehybrid1]()The first of the two clutches is a dry clutch installed between the 4-cylinder engine and the electric motor, where the torque converter would normally be, and the second is between the motor and Xtronic transmission,” according to a [Nissan press release](). ![17roguehybrid2]()Also, the high-output lithium-ion battery is able to charge/recharge quickly meaning with the dual clutch, the system can quickly respond to throttle inputs by switching on and off the battery/engine to make driving feel seem less as well as delivering better fuel economy. It also recharges with regenerative braking and an idle start/stop feature. ![2017-nissan-rogue-sl-rear-three-quarter-02]()Unfortunately, the hybrid loses the ability to have a third-row seat since the battery is housed in the rear-cargo area. Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but I would expect it to exceed $30,000. The base Rogue starts at $23,330.
